![]() ![]() For me, Izotope RX's Advanced ""Leveling" tool is amazing for speech and it touches everything I do. You won't be changing those really, but I might decide to switch up the EQ a bit, so I don't want to print my EQ before I edit.įor voice leveling, I would just default to whatever tool you have that works best. Then I import into reaper and run light CPU effects like my EQ, compression, or anything I might change or tweak over the course of the podcast. From there I'll run each module (declick, denoise, etc.) one at a time as needed and then export that. My workflow personally is brining all my raw audio into Izotope RX's standalone editor first. Noise reduction is a very very CPU intensive process, and for the best results should always be done offline. can all be run easily and with hundreds of instances on a decent system before any issues occur. These plugins usually tax the system too much to be useful as VSTs when they aren't something that will require constant tweaks or changes. You have no need to listen to the denoise plugin in real time you're not running a live broadcast. Plugins that are only built for real-time editing only have the more simple option due to having no way to apply them offline in another editor. ![]() When these plugins operate in real time, they use a simple algorithm compared to normal so they can run fast enough for real-time playback. Combine that with additional processing, especially system intensive stuff, and you're asking your computer to do a lot. I will say, real-time versions of denoise and declick lose effectiveness and tax your CPU on playback a good bit. Your CPU will also handle plugins at different speeds than mine, and different processes differently, so it's hard for me to comment on what renders faster either. I don't use Levelator as I detest "do it all" single solution plugins as their quality is usually quite bad. I can't really give you a useful answer to this unfortunately. In your experience, you think this additional step in levelator would be faster than to use a VST to level the voice with other effects? Resources /r/podcasting Wiki Related Subreddits Questions?
